You’ve got two weekends and two holidays sitting close enough to each other that those “random” workdays in between start looking optional if you plan well. Even if you don’t take leave, you can still stretch your time with smart evenings, late starts, and proper rest in between.
Mosi Day of Thunder
If your weekend doesn’t start with some kind of movement, you’re already behind. The Mosi Day of Thunder is taking place, and Nigerian artist Ruger will be performing live. Yes, that Ruger. Livingstone is only about six hours from Lusaka by road, and the combination of a live performance and a trip to the falls is genuinely hard to beat.
If you have never done the Livingstone weekend trip, this is the one to start with. Book early, sort your accommodation now, and make a proper weekend of it because there is no point driving six hours just to turn around again.

But let’s be real, not everyone is making that trip. You can still recreate the energy locally: link up with friends, find a good outdoor spot, bring a speaker, cook together, and make your own vibe without breaking the bank.

KK Day Without Spending Your Last Kwacha
Monday, 28th April, is Kenneth Kaunda Day, which means most of you will be off, and the KK Marathon is happening. Whether you have been training or you genuinely just enjoy the atmosphere of race day, this is one of the better public holiday activities in Lusaka.
If you are a runner, you already know what to do. If you are not, go anyway. The energy around marathon days is something else, and there is nothing wrong with being the person who shows up in a lawn chair with your favourite drink to cheer strangers on. Both are valid contributions to the occasion.

But even if running isn’t your thing, use that day to be outside, a morning walk, a casual football match, a picnic, or even just sitting somewhere with music and people you actually enjoy. Split costs, bring your own snacks, and suddenly a “broke day” turns into a proper outing.
You don’t need money to catch a vibe, you just need intention.
Rick Ross At Ciela
Labour Day, 1st May, and Rick Ross will be at Ciela Resort alongside other artists for what is being billed as a networking event. Now, I will be honest, "networking event" and "Rick Ross" in the same sentence is a combination I never thought I'd see, but the point stands. This is happening, and if you are in the age bracket that spent evenings listening to Maybach Music, you have no excuse to miss it.
Ciela is a solid venue for this kind of thing. Dress well. Go early enough to actually get in. And yes, you can call it networking if that makes you feel better about how much you’ll be spending to meet the international star.

Now, not everyone is stepping into Ciela, and that’s fine. If Rick Ross is out of reach, host your own “soft life” evening, dress up anyway, play good music, cook something decent, and create the same energy at home or at a friend’s place. It sounds simple, but it works because the people make it worth it.
Half the time, it’s not about where you go, but who you’re with and how you show up.
Davido Weekend
The weekend closes out with Davido performing at the Show Grounds on 2nd May, and if you need me to explain why this is significant, we probably would never be friends. Davido's live shows have a reputation for a reason, and the Show Grounds can hold a crowd.
This one is for the people who did not make it to Livingstone the weekend before, or for the people who made it to Livingstone and still have energy left. Either way, it is a strong way to end what has been a genuinely stacked two-week weekend of back-to-back events.

If you’re not going, run your own version: braai, games, music, storytelling, whatever keeps the energy going. Some of the best nights don’t need a headline artist.
A good weekend can go bad quickly if you don’t think ahead. Split bills early so no one is doing maths at midnight, move in groups so nobody gets stranded, and if you’re drinking, don’t gamble with driving, order a Yango and get home properly. If you’re out late, stay alert and keep your valuables close.
What To Carry So You’re Not That One Unprepared Friend
Nothing ruins a plan faster than being the one who came empty-handed. Carry the basics: water, snacks, a small power bank, some cash, and something warm for later when it gets cold. If it’s an outdoor setup, bring a tent or something simple to sit on. Add good music and good people, and you’re sorted.
Preparation is the difference between “that was nice” and “we need to do that again.”
