Where to Cool Off Without Breaking the Bank

Let’s be honest, when that Lusaka sun turns the city into a giant oven, a day by the pool is a survival instinct. But which spots are actually worth the entrance fee?

Once inside, the swimming pools are free to use, and you can even bring your own meat for the charcoal grills. (Image courtesy of Tiffany Canyon).

Tiffany’s Canyon

First up, the one that feels like a mini-holiday. Tucked away off Kafue Road, Tiffany’s Canyon is less of a pool and more of a water-based playground. The entry is a reasonable K100 for adults and K50 for the little ones, and once you’re in, the swimming pools are free to use. It’s a fantastic spot to gather your crew, fire up one of their charcoal grills (just bring your own meat), and make a full day of it. It’s also a hit with the adrenaline junkies, thanks to the zip line and kayaking on offer.

Monkey Pools

If you’re craving a break from concrete and chlorine, Monkey Pools is calling your name. This natural oasis on Leopards Hill Road is a beautiful spot for a picnic, a braai, and a peaceful walk. For K150 to K200 per person, you can spend the whole day surrounded by wildlife and greenery.

Ciêla Resort

Sometimes, you just need a bit of polish. Ciêla Resort offers day access to its stunning pool for K400 per person, and let me tell you, it’s a step into another world. The pool is gorgeous, the loungers are comfortable, and the food and bar service is on point. It’s a premium price for a premium experience, but it’s a brilliant way to treat yourself without booking a full overnight stay.

For ZMW 400 per person, non-residents can enjoy a full day at this luxurious resort’s stunning outdoor pool. The pool area offers comfortable loungers and food service, making it a perfect premium treat. (Image courtesy of Ciela Resort).

Chaminuka Lodge

Why just swim when you can make a whole day of it? Chaminuka’s day visit packages start from around K1500 per person and are the ultimate all-inclusive escape. Your fee doesn’t just get you pool access; it typically includes a buffet lunch, a game drive, and a boat ride. The pool itself is set against a breathtaking backdrop of the reserve, making every stroke feel like a scene from a movie. Booking is essential here, so plan ahead.

InterContinental Lusaka

For a reliable, no-fuss option right in the city centre, the InterContinental is a solid bet. Non-residents can access their large, well-maintained pool for K895. It’s not the wildest or the most luxurious, but it’s clean, central, and perfect if you’re short on time. You can grab a drink from the bar and enjoy a few quiet lengths before heading back into the hustle.

If you’ve got the kids in town and want maximum fun for minimum spend, head to Tiffany’s Canyon. For a romantic treat or a solo recharge, Ciêla’s day pass is worth every ngwee. And if you want to turn a swim into a full-blown adventure, Chaminuka is hard to beat. Wherever you go, remember to confirm the latest prices and opening hours directly with the venue, policies change faster than the Lusaka weather. Happy swimming!
